About the Explorer

I’m Dominican-American (first generation) and from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York. Yeah that’s a mouthful. I started this blog in 2009 during a time when “having a platform” for a writer was important. I haven’t found my audience yet but I’m simply having fun with this site. I know live in Oakland, CA. Great weather. Crappy public transportation, but that’s another post.

I abandoned this blog for a few years because I thought other bloggers were doing it better. But then I snapped out of it and inspired myself to get back into sharing how I view the world as a writer. We all inspire each other somehow so why not add my spice to the blogosphere pot?

Some background about me: I wrote my first short story in junior high school. I graduated to reading Christopher Pike novels when R.L. Stine became too predictable. Pike’s thriller/suspense novels compelled me to write a story about a writer getting snubbed out by his muse. Then I moved on to other sillyness. After Pike, I moved on to John Saul and his stories also became predictable and dull. Then I discovered Stephen King.

If you don’t know this by now, I’m a Huge fan. I may not have read all of his novels but I own most of them! I was proclaiming myself as the female Stephen King at one point but that faded real quick. I don’t want to be like him; I want to be like myself with My own voice! He’s the writer I keep up with every year, no matter what.

Also, this year (2015), I’ll be attending graduate school for the first time ever. I’ll be obtaining my MFA in Creative Writing so I’m very excited. A big chunk of posts will be about the program. Hopefully, not many of my classmates will be reading!

Other than that, I’m inspired by many things – hence the Adventures in Writing title of this blog – media, life, people, experiences; pretty much everything that makes us Human.

So kick back, peruse the site at your leisure and enjoy. If you wanna know anything, don’t hesitate to reach out. 🙂

  1. Hello Rose,

I am a caricaturist – but I love to read, so I often find myself on blogs by writers.
I wish you luck with MFA. I see that we’ve got similar interests in movies and books:)

    Warm Regards,
    Shafali

  2. Nice to meet a Fellow NYU grad. I see we have similar interests and being that I stumbled across your blog during NanoWriMo that makes it even all the better. Good Luck with your MFA!

    • How goes it with NanoWriMo? I’ve been meaning to post about it but I’ve been procrastinating like crazy. I’m behind by 20K as I write this (instead of writing my novel) and am hoping for the best. Good luck on your novel!! 🙂

    Hi there!
I never thought I would chance upon a writer who also likes Stephen King and R.L Stine books, although I was more into the choose your own adventure style (I think they were Are You Afraid of the Dark books).

I am planning to apply at USF for the MFA, which is how I found your blog! I hope you can share how you went through the application process 🙂 Thank you!
